MCI- MANAGEMENT CENTRE INNSBRUCK
The
Management Centre Innsbruck is an institution founded by the University of
Innsbruck (Leopold-Franzens Universität) in 1995/6, which currently offer
Bachelor's, Master's and Research Programmes. The focus of the MCI is mainly of
business character and more practice-oriented particularly strong in terms of
their management, tourism and engineering courses. Currently MCI counts around
2000 students at undergraduate level and over 500 on postgraduates courses or
master degrees who are spread , accordingly to their field of study, in the 5
campuses built within the city:

I and II in the old town, housing the Faculty of Theology and the Faculty of
Economics & Statistics

III hosting the Tourism Programmes

IV for Engineering adn Technical Sciences

V which is most recent one
Because
of the participation of MCI in the Innsbruck Open Universities programmes, the
facilities and infrastructure are in shared use with the University of
Innsbruck.
MCI
can also claim a very successful Language Centre where experimental language
courses are being organised : Arabic, Chinese, French, Italian, Spanish,
Russian.
MCI
academic year is based on 2 semesters, each carrying 30 ECTS credits of value,
for a total of 3 years and therefore 6 semesters. Class attendance is mandatory
and the normal schedulestreches between 9 am and 12.15 noon, with an hour break
for lunch and then afternoon lessons between 1.15 pm and 4.45 pm.
The
major form of assessment is an examination, either written or oral, at the end
of the semester, which requires a minimum mark of 60% to pass the course.
Grades are assigned as follows:
1-
excellent- 100-90%
2-
good- 89-80%
3-
satisfactory- 69-60%
4-
sufficient- 69-60%
5-
unsatisfactory- 59% and below
Due to the fact that, in recent years, MCI has seen a
rise in the number of international students, a programme of intergration and
exchange has been established, including a compusory induction week at the
beginning of every semester to orientate the new students , a "buddy"
programme where an MCI student if affiliated with the new student in orther to
help him or her getting accostumed to the system and the life in Innsbruck and
a German Course for International Students to help improve language skills
throghout the semester.
At MCI the learning process is also supported by the use of technology: computers are available at every campus during opening hours and they allow the access to a wide range of databases as for example Emerald and WISO; students are also give a personal student email account and a student number that allows them to access material and university information while off-campus. MCI also has three main libraries located at MCI I, III and IV, which contain a wide range of material, from scientific literature to current newspapers and magazines; libraries can also offer a quiet study environment and remain open accordingly to the campus opening times. All MCI students have also access to the University of Innsbruck library which is the third-largest in Austria and houses over 3.5m books and 7500 print or online journals.
