Innsbruck

INNSBRUCK
The city of Innsbruck is the capital of the region of Tyrol in western Austria since 1429. The city, which name means "the bridge over the Inn", is situated in the Inn valley, halfway both from Munich (D) and Verona (I).The live map of the city can be found here: http://citymap.innsbruck.gv.at/stadtplan/synserver?project=Innsbruck&client=flex (INN`S BRUCK, 2013).
Innsbruck is surroundeed by a series of high mountains which, not just made the city a famous location for winter sports, but also allowed it to be selected to host 4 Winter Olympics in 1964, 1976, 1984 and 1988.

Innsbruck acts as the most important economic and cultural centre in western Austria, attracting daily some 35.000 commuters form the surrounding regional area and millions of annual tourists, who are mainly attracted by the skiing and winter sport possibilities, but who also populate the city during festivals and special events. A famous example can be identified in the worldwide famous "Christkindlmarkt"  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUTkQbVrEGQ#t=30 (INN`S BRUCK, 2013) (Christmas Market) or the Innsbrucker Tanzsommer.

Innsbruck is also a university city:  the University of Innsbruck or Leopold-Franzes Universität, the Innsbruck Medical University and the MCI Management Centre are the three best known educational enterprises in the city (UIBK, 2013).

Public means of transportation, due to the limited parking space available in the town, are probably the commonest and most used way of getting around in the city: the bus and tram systems are both run by Innsbrucker Verkehrsbetriebe and offer more than 40 lines (160 Buses and 32 Trams) connecting different districts of Innsbruck and the surrounding villages (IVB, 2013).

Innsbruck heritage also gives to the city part of its attractiveness: a great majority of the sites is linked to the Habsburg's period as for example the Keiserlicher Hofburg and the Hofkirche (Lonenly Planet, 2013); other important sites are for example the Stadtturm and the Bergisel (Lonenly Planet, 2013, INN`S BRUCK, 2013).
